I have tested several handheld, bypass pruning shears in the past. Some pass the test and others just don’t quite make it. This one makes it just fine. The handles are padded. This is great when you have a lot of pruning to do, like we do. The blade is sharp. It’s sharp from hilt to tip. That means that you can even prune very small stemmed plants without problems. I tested it up to 5/8″ branch and it will cut it, but you have to apply some force. I would say these pruners will safely prune 1/2″ and smaller. Unless you have really strong hands, then 5/8″ is the limit. But you don’t want to bend the blade and damage the pruners. This pruning Shears by HIG is very good to work with. They are comfortable and appear to be well made. I fine the prune to be well made and lightweight. If you’ll be doing a lot of pruning, check the weight of the pruners – heavier ones will cause more fatigue. While handling various shears over the years in my garden, I fine that quality pruning shears will allow you to adjust the tightness of the cutting mechanism and ensure that the blades are tightly held against each other. My hands are thin and small and I’m please that it’s not so rough on my hands working with for some period of time. Even though I had this shear for a few days it…
